Variations on a (Super Mario Brothers) Theme

This seems to be the song to master to prove your musical prowess to the world. Below are some of my favorite interpretations of the SMB Theme.

This is amazing. He plays the theme on the Flute while beatboxing!

Zakk Kim plays this song on 2 Guitars at the same time!

Here’s the theme played on a 11-string Bass.

Another Guitar version. I love how he does the additional sound effects.

Here is a version on the Piano masterfully performed by Martin Leung. It’s over 10 minutes long but it goes through every Mario game.

Check out Vadrum and his awesome Drum version of the Super Mario Theme

For you Accordion lovers out there… here’s one for you :)

A Capella version (includes many more Nintendo theme songs)

I honestly couldn’t make it to the end of this video… it’s impressive nonetheless. They call it manualism.

A Clarinet quartet version:

A Trombone quartet…

I like this version. It’s a ragtime remix done on a Xylophone, 2 Marimbas and Drum.

Wow – I think the only versions left to create are the Kazoo and Spoons!

Joe Satriani first released “Midnight” on Surfing With The Alien (1987). It is a two handed tapping guitar masterpiece. I have my own version on youtube.com albeit not nearly as good as the master…

I love music…

I play the guitar but have played the violin. When people ask me what kind of music I like, I always respond with “I like musicians that display talent”. I can cite mostly guitarists… namely Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen and John Petrucci; Drummers such as Neil Pert from Rush; and Youtube greats such as the guy with the horns and the numerous versions of Super Mario Brothers on any/every instrument.

Innovative ways to play existing/inventive instruments is fascinating to me. With the digital revolution at hand, anyone can post their talent online. If you enjoy someone bouncing a ball on a keyboard and playing entire pieces, if you like watching someone’s fingers nearly catch fire on a guitar fretboard, if you enjoy a musician playing any instrument in an inventive or masterful way… then stay tuned!
